Multipurpose frigatesFrench Navy Frigate FS Languedoc transits alongside USS Harry S. Truman during an air and sea power demonstration. US Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class T'ara TrippThe Languedoc and the Alsace are both multipurpose frigates part of the FREMM family of warships. Under the FREMM initiative, or "European multi-purpose frigate" project, the ships were developed by France and Italy. Initially, 27 FREMM frigates — 17 for France and 10 for Italy — were planned for development with three proposed variants: an anti-submarine variant, a general-purpose variant, and a land-attack variant. These include the lead ship FS Aquitaine, as well as FS Provence, FS Languedoc, FS Auvergne, FS Bretagne, FS Normandie, FS Alsace, and FS Lorraine.

Washington, DC CNN —Americans racked up a record amount of credit card debt in 2023, soaring past a trillion dollars. “Consumers still have a lot of money left over to be able to spend, so the credit card data is often misinterpreted,” Russell Price, chief economist at Ameriprise Financial, told CNN. According to a LendingTree analysis of more than 350,000 credit reports, the average unpaid credit card balance was $6,864 in the fourth quarter. Overall, US household debt (including credit card balances) rose to a new high of $17.5 trillion in the fourth quarter, up 1.2% from the prior three-month period. So, while there certainly isn’t a shortage of economic hurdles bedeviling people’s budget — and credit card debt has surged — the big picture indicates that, so far, Americans (and their economy) remain healthy.

Wall Street returned to its winning ways this week — and Nvidia 's blowout earnings report Wednesday night was a big reason why. Twenty-six of our 32 portfolio stocks have delivered their results this earnings season (we didn't own Abbott Labs at the time of its report). It was a muted week for macroeconomic data, but we did get a slightly better-than-expected January existing home sales report on Thursday. In the week ahead, two more Club names are set to report earnings before a market-moving economic update arrives Thursday morning. The two other reports of note are the January new home sales report on Monday and ISM Manufacturing report on Friday.

These workers had the highest unemployment rate when breaking down Black, Hispanic and white workers by gender. By comparison, white men saw a jobless rate of just 3.3% in January, holding steady from December. The overall unemployment rate was unchanged from December at 3.7%. This underscores the impact of job losses among Black men, especially considering the fact that the rate for Black women was unchanged between December and January at 4.8%. The tight labor market experienced during the pandemic helped close the gap in work-related opportunities among Black and white men, she said.

And it will be the first time the Chiefs hit the road for a conference title game since Jan. 23, 1994, when Joe Montana was the quarterback and they lost 30-13 in Buffalo. They also won in Buffalo on Jan. 1, 1967, in the AFL championship game to reach the first Super Bowl, where they lost to the Packers of Vince Lombardi. After a tepid year in the IPO market, investors are hopeful 2024 will bring about a return to form. But the IPO market cratered in 2022 after the Federal Reserve's aggressive rate hiking campaign collapsed investor demand for growth stocks. But happier days could be ahead for the IPO market in 2024. According to Linqto's 2024 IPO Sentiment Survey released Thursday, only a little more than half, 52%, of 2,500 traders polled are anticipating a significant recovery in the IPO market this year, suggesting "cautious optimism" ahead. After ICBC FS was hacked, it was forced to unplug from the U.S. Treasury market and begin to clear trades manually. Photo: Alexander Cohn/The Wall Street JournalIndustrial & Commercial Bank of China, the world’s largest bank, paid $1 for its place on Wall Street. It got more than it bargained for. The Chinese lender acquired a small New York broker-dealer in 2010, a move that extended its presence into the U.S. securities industry. It is now dealing with the fallout from a cyberattack this month that crippled that business and briefly triggered widespread concerns about the fragility of the largest cash market in the world.
